The Anglican Way in Theology
What is Anglican theology? Does such an animal even exit? Some believe the answer is No. Geoffrey Fisher, Archbishop of Canterbury (1945-1961), famously wrote that Anglicanism “has no peculiar thought, practice, creed, or confession of its own.” Recently, Gavin Ashenden, chaplain to Queen Elizabeth II (2008-2017), declared that “Anglicanism, regrettably, lacks any doctrinal internal coherence…” Students who take this course will discover that an Anglican way of understanding the Christian faith (theology) does exit, and that it is thoughtful, generous, and biblically faithful.
The primary objective of this course is to prepare students to do theology in the Anglican way, beginning with Holy Scripture that is informed by Church tradition, used liturgically, and applied pastorally for the edification of believers.
